About James
James Alger is a director at BRM and heads up the Sheffield Real Estate Team. He joined BRM in 2019 from regional law firm, Keebles.
He has significant experience dealing with a wide variety of commercial property acquisitions and disposals for both investors and developers and many years of experience in Landlord and Tenant matters.
James advises developers and housebuilders on land acquisition, site assembly and disposals overseeing the process from initial purchase to disposal of the final completed properties.
James also provides advice around the property elements of business sales and acquisitions as well as advising insolvency practitioners on the property aspects of business insolvencies.
As an adoptive Sheffielder for nearly 20 years having moved from the Humber region as a graduate, James is passionate about the development and regeneration of the city centre landscape and relishes having an opportunity to contribute to this as a real estate professional.
James is also the Training Principal at BRM overseeing the recruitment and training of the firm’s trainee solicitors.
Recent deals James has worked on include: –
- A multi-million-pound purchase of a high profile listed office building in Sheffield;
- The funding of a mixed use partially listed redevelopment in Rotherham town Centre;
- The disposal of a multi-site affordable home portfolio for a plc housebuilder;
- The multi-million-pound acquisition of a portfolio of Victorian houses in Sheffield and their subsequent disposal following renovation;
- The acquisition and contracting of multiple residential development sites in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Sheffield for a leading East Midlands housebuilder;
- Assisting the firm’s corporate team with the multi-million-pound reorganisation and refinancing of a South Yorkshire headquartered waste management business.
