Employment Law Post Budget Update
Employment Law Post Budget Update – well thankfully after the Employment Rights Bill announcement a few weeks ago and leaks in the press there were not too many surprises today in the budget although it could be a challenging time for employers as we move into 2025.
Skills England was announced as a new arm’s length Government body that will bring together key partners to meet the skills needs over the next decade. Its aim is to help people get better jobs and standard of living, this is in shadow form currently but will be enhanced and implemented over the next year. We will cover this in further detail as more is announced.
We have seen increases to National Living Wage and significant increases to National Minimum Wage for 18 – 20 year olds and apprentices from April 2025, together with significant changes to Employers National insurance contributions by 1.2% but with the threshold also reducing from £9,100 to £5000.
The Government remained true to their word that we would not see increased taxes in wage slips however many businesses may have to assess and evaluate how the increases in wages and national insurance can be met.
We will continue to keep you all up to date with the changes in Employment Law and HR matters as they happen.
