Employment Law Reform Commencement Dates Announced

2013 is set to be quite a busy year for employment law.

In a press release issued yesterday, the Government announced that a number of employment law reforms have received Royal Assent.

The following reforms will come into force from 25 June 2013:

The two year qualification period for employment will not apply if an employee’s political opinion or affiliations are the main reason for dismissal.
Procedures and costs of deciding tribunal cases will be simplified. Parties will be encouraged to work together to settle their dispute before Employment Tribunal claims are lodged.
Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Services’ (Acas) early conciliation and a greater use of settlement agreements are suggested as the ways to make this happen.
Closure of a loophole in whistle-blowing protections which only allows individuals to whistle-blow in matters of public interest.
Workers are prevented from making a whistle-blowing claim at Employment Tribunals for private matters for example, problems relating to their own contract.
The Government say that this will introduce greater protection for individuals from harassment when they blow the whistle at work.

As reported in my previous posts, many more changes are expected to be introduced over the next two years.
