Grandparents To Receive Shared Parental Leave Rights
The Chancellor George Osborne has today announced plans to extend shared parental leave rights to grandparents.
A consultation process will take place next year, with plans to implement the policy by 2018.
Evidence obtained by the government suggests 2 million working grandparents have given up work, reduced their working hours, or taken leave to help with childcare.
A remarkable £8 billion pounds is estimated to be contributed to the economy as a result of this.
The proposed extension of shared parental leave right is intended by the government to allow working families to have
greater flexibility in their ability to look after children, without the fear of it affecting their employment situation.
Obviously this will have an impact employers, and we await next year’s consultation process with interest.
