In January, Contentious Probate Solicitor, Paul Berresford, observed a noticeable increase in people coming to our firm to make a Lasting Power of Attorney.
Now half way through 2012, Associate Legal Executive Gemma Hardwick has reported completing almost double the number of Lasting Powers of Attorney over the same period last year.
Gemma commented:
“I am somewhat surprised at the increase over last year, but it seems that people are becoming better informed about the benefits of making a Lasting Power of Attorney, whatever their age. A Lasting Power of Attorney allows you to make provisions in advance of any unforeseen circumstances so that your health and financial affairs will always be taken care of. In the event that something did happen to you, significant costs and legal problems for you and your family can be avoided. My colleagues and I have long been of the opinion that everyone should have a Lasting Power of Attorney in the same way everyone should pay in to a good pension, have life insurance and make a Will. You never know what is around the corner.”
